Hour Of Code at San Anton School

The Department of Curriculum Management organized the first National Edition of the Hour of Code between Monday 7th and Friday 11th December 2015. This was part of an international event organised during Computer Science Education Week which has been organised for the last couple of years.
The majority of San Anton School students took part in this event. Great Awareness is made across the world to continue learning computer science.
This year the global movement added more than 100 million learners in 180 countries.
We believe that every student should have the opportunity to learn computer science that is why we have been exposing our students to computer science for years and will continue to build on this achievement. It helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career.
We start teaching our students how to use simple control devices like a Bee-bot at the age of 3 years in the early sector and continue improving their skills with many challenging devices like Lego Education Robotics in the Junior Sector to Lego Education NXT Java Script language programming in the Senior Sector.

Graphic Program - CReating Patterns using an object based Program

In this lesson the Grade 5 students learn how to create a pattern using images. They use the copy and paste facility to make the pattern with the images selected. They also understand that an object based program is the best program to do this.

Calculating Distances

Bee-bot time!

Reinforcing their knowledge with control devices, the grade 5 students used the bee-bot to learn how to measure distances as a link to their maths lesson in class. They had to calculate the distance the bee-bot needs to travel to reach the desired destination.  A bee-bot moves accurately in 15cm steps every time they press the forward or back button and makes turns of 90° when they press the turn left or turn right button. They have to first calculate the distance with the bee bot ruler and than program it to travel the distance in one sequence. They created different courses for the bee-bot.

Bee-bot confirms moves and commands with flashing eyes and signals the end of his programmed journey with "BEEP BEEP" sounds. They concentrated very much and were very successful!

Email in Grade 4

The students in Grade 4 learnt that e-mail is a digital messaging service of the Internet. They have become aware that e-mail is used to communicate ideas and get feedback. The students used email to send information about the country they worked on for Open Day. They composed and sent an email with all the information they gathered while browsing the internet. This was an ICT integrated activity.
